Baked dulce de leche empanadas are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast or dessert. These empanadas are a popular dessert in Latin America, especially in Argentina and Uruguay. They’re incredibly delicious and require only 3 ingredients!
Whether you prefer sweet breakfast recipes like pink pancakes or savory recipes like ham and cheese egg cups, you’ll love these empanadas! The filling is smooth and sweet while the crust is flaky and savory.
INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED
Dulce de Leche – I used store-bought dulce de leche but feel free to make your own at home.
Empanada Discs – These can be found in the frozen section at your local grocery store. If you can’t find empanada discs, feel free to use store-bought puff pastry instead.
Egg – Helps the empanadas achieve a beautiful golden color.
HOW TO MAKE DULCE DE LECHE EMPANADAS
To make baked dulce de leche empanadas, start with store-bought empanada discs and dulce de leche. Place a spoonful of dulce de leche onto each disc and fold the dough over, crimping the edges to seal in the filling. Bake the empanadas in the oven at 350°F for about 18-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
TOP TIPS
- Top them with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness or coat them in cinnamon sugar right before baking.
- If you can’t find dulce de leche in stores, another similar option is cajeta, which is made with goat’s milk and has a slightly tangier flavor.
STORAGE
If you have any leftovers, place them in an air-tight container and keep them on your kitchen counter for up to 3-4 days. Feel free to microwave them for a few seconds if you enjoy them warm.
